Nana-nanana-nanana-nanana-nanana-nanana-nanana-nanana. I can’t get that out of my head and I thought I’d share the curse. You’re welcome.
Translation:
The verdict fell on a morning flight to London
like quiet, heavy steps approaching you
The verdict fell, even though you always used a condom
and, scythe asway, your old friend waits.
And like you played as children
and you stood at attention, back straight, and took 400 blows.
The Sleep came, and you who were so with the times.
The verdict fell like tears against your screen
The sleep came like an opinion twisted right
but against dollar and yen, death easily becomes a joke.
And like you played when you were children
You lose your war and stand alone.
And no one comes to your defense
So you stand at attention, back straight and take 400 blows.
From Kent’s album Du & Jag, Döden (You and me, Death). I love that album cover and the other illustrations in the booklet, all credited on Kent’s site to Pistachios aka Måns Swanberg.
Swedish band Kent wrote and performed this theme song for a Swedish TV show about the homeless of Stockholm. The proceeds from the single went to a charity for the same cause.
As this isn’t really known anywhere outside of Sweden, and it’s a wonderful music video, I’m putting it on here.
